This photo was taken when I was on a solo trip to Canada. I’ve been single for ever and I’ve adopted the mentality of if I wait for someone to see the world with I’ll never get to see it. I’m almost resigned to being on my own. I’m mostly fine with it. I live by myself, I have an amazing family, fantastic friends and job that I find fulfilling and proud.

However...about 3 hours before this was taken I found out that my mum was in hospital having a pacemaker fitted after emergency hospital tests showed she had 2 heart conditions. Honestly genuinely, I’ve never felt more alone.

I just wanted to be at home and I just wanted to be with my family.

All of a sudden, me being a strong independent woman just felt like so unimportant - And like I was kidding myself.

Since then I’ve made the decision to be honest. I’m still single. Sometimes I’m really, really lonely. Sometimes I’m not ok on my own.

The trick is to surround yourself with love until you are again.
