"The paramedics arrived and I then became a part of a human jigsaw puzzle as they dismantled the escalator around me and cut off my hair and clothes to free me." - Becca

"It was the most magical night. We went on a boat party down the Thames, I felt like a princess in a floor length red dress and my hair perfectly long like I had always dreamed.
On the way home that evening I had a terrible accident...
What began as an amazing night ended with my beautiful long dress getting caught under the escalator while travelling down into the underground. I lost my balance and fell down the escalator and as I tried to get up, I realised my hair was trapped in the moving parts.
As I struggled to escape, realising I was stuck, I was lucky enough that a man ran to press the emergency stop. What followed was an hour or two of excruciating pain and fear as I was stuck by my hair unable to move my head and a head wound that the fear only made hurt more.
The paramedics arrived and I then became a part of a human jigsaw puzzle as they dismantled the escalator around me and cut off my hair and clothes to free me.
After that evening, I went from having long blonde hair, to having half my hair shaved and a haircut I never even imagined myself to have.
I underwent CBT therapy for PTSD and overcame a massive struggle to get myself back on escalators feeling confident. I experienced more panic attacks and self hatred in that time than I had ever experienced before.
Over the course of a year and a half I had to build myself back up ~ not just the confidence to get back on escalators and overcome my PTSD, but confidence in myself, and the ability to recognise myself in the mirror.
Now I am back and I am stronger than ever."
